DALLAS, Pa. – The Manhattanville College baseball team closed out its 2017 regular season campaign with two losses to Misericordia University Saturday, falling 8-3 in game one and 5-1 in game two at Tambur Field.
Freshman
Luke Tebolt (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) had himself a strong day offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and sophomore
Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) finished with two hits on the day.
Game One
The Valiants fell behind in game one 1-0 after the first and the Cougars added another tally in the second to lead 2-0 after two innings. Manhattanville battled back however, leading off the top of the third with a single by senior
Joe Booker (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson). Tebolt followed with another single to right field and after a sacrifice bunt, senior
Chris Conklin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) plated both runners with another base knock to make it 2-2.
The Cougars had the response though, taking the lead with one run in the fourth and added three more in the fifth to pull away. Manhattanville could only get one run back the rest of the way, scoring in the sixth inning on a two-out single to center field by freshman
Stephen Merrill (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) to bring home senior
John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). Two more runs by Misericordia in the bottom half of the frame sealed the deal for the Cougars, giving them the 8-3 win in the middle game of the series.
Game Two
Misericordia had a great pitching outing by starter Jake Kurtz who held the Valiants to just three hits in the series finale. For the third straight game the Cougars plated a run in the first inning to take the lead but again Manhattanville tied it in their next at bat when freshman
Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) knocked in Conklin with a single to left field to make it 1-1 midway through the second frame.
The Cougars once again retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1, and added a three-run home run in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
The Valiants will now spend the week preparing for their sixth consecutive appearance in the MAC Freedom tournament beginning on Friday at Owls Field in West Lawn, Pa.
