MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team dropped its first game of 2017, falling by a 2-0 score to Drew University on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
Manhattanville (0-1-1) struggled to get any offense going against Drew (2-1-0), as the visitors managed only two shots off the foot of freshman reserve
Bri Altamuro (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Eastern Christian) over the course of the 90 minutes. The Rangers did not fare much better, attempting 10 shots and putting only four of them on goal, but it was enough to secure the win.
Drew's Alex Gilgorri opened the scoring in the 19th minute with the game-winner, taking a pass from the corner and finding the net. The Rangers struck again less than 11 minutes later, with Meghan McDermott doubling the home team's lead on just the third shot of the afternoon.
Sophomore
Bella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made two saves for Manhattanville, while Drew keeper Brielle Castanheira made one save to earn the win.
Manhattanville will play its first game in front of the GoValiants.com Field crowd on Saturday, when the Valiants battle Purchase College in the annual Battle of Anderson Hill Road clash beginning at 1 p.m.
