Women's Hockey Loses Third-Period Lead, Drops UCHC Contest to William Smith 2-1

GENEVA, NY – Krista Federow scored two third-period goals for William Smith as the Manhattanville College women's hockey team fell 2-1 to the Herons for the second time in 24 hours Sunday afternoon in UCHC action at The Cooler.

After Manhattanville (9-9-1, 6-4 UCHC) was kept off the scoreboard for the first 59:55 Saturday night, junior Nicole Mensi (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Northwood School) scored 11:51 into the game on Sunday, knocking in the rebound of her initial shot after it popped straight in the air above the crease in front of William Smith (13-4-3, 9-1-2 UCHC) goalie Maggie Salmon.

Manhattanville junior goalie Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) stopped all 11 Wiilliam Smith shots in the period as the Valiants took the 1-0 lead to the second period. Just like Saturday's game, the two teams failed to find the net in the second period as Pijaca stopped 11 more shots while Salmon stopped eight from the Valiants.

After tying the game on the power play at 5:59 of the final period, Federow struck again with 1:46 remaining. The Valiants had opportunities in the final seconds, but Salmon saved a shot from sophomore Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride), then Maura Mulligan blocked Pelowitz's follow-up attempt.  allowing the Herons to clear the puck as the final horn sounded.

The Valiants return home to Playland Ice Casino next weekend as UCHC series play continues against Utica, starting Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
