Women's Soccer Drops High-Scoring Affair at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. -- The Manhattanville College women's soccer team dropped a high-scoring Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match on the road Tuesday night, Oct. 16, to Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham, falling by a score of 8-3.

For Manhattanville (2-11, 0-5 MACF), rookies were the story of the night. Freshmen Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) and Margaret Gocha (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) led the way offensively as they accounted for two goals and two assists, respectively. These were the second and third goals of Hayes' career, while Gocha now how three career assists. Rookie keeper Steph Shalhoub (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) made her first-career collegiate start in net for the Valiants, playing all 90 minutes and making 12 stops on the Devils' (10-4-2, 2-2-1 MACF) 20 shots on net. Junior forward Samira Davis (Stockholm, Sweden/Kungsholmens Gymnasium) was the other goal scorer on the night the road team.

Hayes first goal was also the first of the game for Manhattanville and came in the 40th minute to cut the FDU-Florham lead in half at 2-1. The rookie was able to capitalize on a rebound in front of the net following a Valiants' corner kick and put it past the Devils' keeper. Manhattanville's next score came in the 82nd minute, again off the foot of Hayes, while Gocha recorded her first helper. The Valiants' final score of the game came 1:02 later in the 84th as Davis put one in the back of the net with the assist from Gocha.

Manhattanville's next match will be another road MAC Freedom contest this Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., against Wilkes University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The Valiants then return home for Senior Night at GoValiants.com Field when Brooklyn College comes to Purchase, N.Y., next Tuesday night, Oct. 23. Kickoff against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. following Manhattanville's honoring of its graduating seniors.
