Men's Hockey Drops Season Opener to #8/#11 Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team dropped its 2018-19 season opener 5-1 to the #8/#11 Utica College Pioneers Tuesday Oct. 30 from the Adirondack Bank Center in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.

The Pioneers, the reigning UCHC regular season and tournament champions, came in ranked #8 in the country by D3hockey.com and #11 by USCHO.com

Senior Cory Anderson (Bakersfield, Calif./Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) scored his 25th career goal for Manhattanville (0-1, 0-1 UCHC) off assists from classmates Jared Martin (Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask./Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) and Casper Dyrssen (Stockholm, Sweden/Northern Cyclones (EHL)), but Utica (1-2, 1-0 UCHC) scored the game's first three goals and Josh Haskin recorded four assists for the host Pioneers.

Anderson's score answered early goals from Utica's Gregg Burmaster, Regen Cavanagh and Tyler Dill, as some crisp passing from Dyrssen and Martin created an open net opportunity for Anderson from just outside the crease.

The Pioneers tacked on two more as the Valiants offense could not find the back of the net over the final two periods, despite outshooting the hosts by a near two-to-one margin, 26-15. Anderson had five shots to lead the Valiants while fellow senior Matt Lippa (Richmond Hill, Ont./Oakville Blades (OJHL)) and freshman Nikko Happo each had four.

Senior goalie Tyler Feaver (Whitby, Ont./Whitby Fury (OJHL)) had 24 saves for Manhattanville while Sean Dickson made 29 stops for Utica. The Valiants are back on the ice Saturday Nov. 3 against the Nazareth College Golden Flyers, one of six straight UCHC games to open the season.
