Rowella, Arfelt, Walltott, Vail Lead Men's Hockey to 3-1 Win over Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, CT – Freshman Alex Rowella (Ridgefield, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) scored his first collegiate goal and seniors Oscar Arfelt (Stockholm, Sweden/Connecticut Oilers (EHL)) and Axel Walltott (Stockholm, Sweden/Varmdo HC J20 (SWE)) added their first and second goals of the season 32 seconds apart as the Manhattanville College men's hockey team ran its unbeaten streak to six games with a 3-1 defeat of the Connecticut College Camels 3-1 Saturday night from Dayton Arena.

The two sides skated to a scoreless first period despite a 10-6 shot advantage for Manhattanville (4-1-2), courtesy of four shots taken on two power plays, but Connecticut College (0-3-0) goalie Connor Rodericks and sophomore Mac Vail (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers (EHL)) stopped all 16 shots.

Rowella scored at 13:29 of the second period for Manhattanville (4-1-2) off assists from senior Bryan Platt (Trumbull, Conn./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) and sophomore Tristan Ramage (Pittsburgh, Pa./Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL)). 46 seconds later on a delayed penalty, Arfelt made it 2-0 off assists from sophomore Braeden Cross (Sechelt, B.C./Cochrane Crunch (CJHL)) and senior Nigel Slade (St. Catherines, Ont./Niagara Falls Canucks (GOJHL)). Walltott capped off the scoring barrage with assists from Arfelt and fellow senior Cory Anderson (Bakersfield, Calif./Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)).

With Vail less than five minutes away from posting shutouts in his last two starts, Matt Creamer scored for the Camels with 3:46 left in regulation. With Connecticut College still down two goals late, Rodericks headed to the bench for an extra skater, but Platt won three faceoffs in the final 90 seconds and the Camels managed just one shot on goal Vail turned away as he lowered his goals against average to 1.26.

The Valiants return to Playland Ice Casino and United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play Friday night with a 7 p.m. puck drop against the first-year Wilkes University Colonels.
