Box Score NEW LONDON, CONN. — In a matchup featuring two strong programs, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 3-0 contest to Connecticut College Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Valiants (7-1-1) got off to a rough start, with Connecticut (4-2-2) grabbing the lead just 34 seconds in on a goal by Erin Dillon. The home team would then add two more goals in the period, with Jordan Cross and and Paige Michel scoring for the Camels, with Michel's goal coming on the power play.

Manhattanville had a 5-on-3 power play opportunity early in the second period, but the team was unable to cash in as Connecticut goaltender Bailey Mertz made four saves during the Valiant advantage.

The Valiants, who came into the game averaging just under five goals per game, could not break through against Mertz, who made 14 saves on the night and picked up the shutout.

Senior goaltender Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) made 35 saves for the Valiants, but it was not enough as the team dropped its first game this year.

The Valiants return to action Sunday, Dec. 9, when they travel to Williamstown, Mass. to take on Williams College, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
