Women's Hockey Skates to Scoreless Tie With Stevenson in UCHC/MAC Play

RYE, NY – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team skated to a scoreless tie with the Stevenson Mustangs Friday night in UCHC/MAC Play, setting up a winner-take-all battle tomorrow for the inaugural Middle Atlantic Conference title.

Both teams came in 4-0-0 in MAC play, having each swept Lebanon Valley and King's (Pa.) earlier in the season. The final score marked Stevenson's first scoreless tie of the season and Manhattanville's second in two weeks, following a 0-0 battle with Utica on February 2.

Manhattanville junior goalie Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) stopped all 26 Stevenson (12-7-5, 9-3-3 UCHC, 4-0-1 MAC) shots, while Catie Darosa stopped all 37 attempts from Manhattanville (9-12-3, 6-7-2 UCHC, 4-0-1 MAC).

Stevenson took the first three shots of the game, keeping constant pressure on the Valiants, but Manhattanville ended the opening period with a 15-5 shot advantage, including four shots in the final 90 seconds.

Both teams picked up the offensive intensity in the second period, peppering the goaltenders with 27 total shots, 11 coming from Stevenson, including four on the first power play opportunity of the game. The two teams mustered just 13 total shots in the 3rd period, including a shot-less power play opportunity for Stevenson, the second and final power play of the game.

In overtime, the Valiants held the Mustangs without a shot and had a trio of opportunities themselves, but Darosa finished the game with her second highest save total of the season. Darosa lowered her goals against average from 2.91 to 2.64, while Pijaca lowered her goals against average from 2.26 to 2.14.

The two teams will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. from Playland Ice Casino for Senior Day. Before the game, Manhattanville will honor its eight members of the Class of 2018.
