PITTSTON, Pa. – Junior
Cory Anderson (Bakersfield, Calif./Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) scored a pair of goals to lead the Manhattanville College men's hockey team to a much-needed 4-1 victory over King's (Pa.) College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference and Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday night at the Revolution Ice Centre.
Manhattanville (9-7-5, 6-4-2 UCHC/3-2-0 MAC) moves into a tie with Neumann University for fifth place and three points clear of Nazareth College in the UCHC standings with four games remaining, as the Valiants continue the push for the postseason.
Anderson led the way for the Valiants with his second career multi-goal game, scoring once in both the first and second periods to help secure the win. Classmate
Matt Lippa (Richmond Hill, Ont./Oakville Blades (OJHL)) added his team-leading 12th goal and 12th assist for his third straight multi-point effort, while sophomore
Kenny McLean (New Rochelle, N.Y./New York Bobcats (EHL)) also found the net and added an assist for the visitors.
King's (0-21-0, 0-12-0 UCHC/0-5-0 MAC) scored the first goal of the game off the stick of Nicholas Palumbo 5:34 into the contest, but it was all Valiants after that, as Manhattanville scored the final four goals of the night and outshot the Monarchs by a 50-14 margin over the course of the evening.
Anderson got the Valiants back to even with 3:38 remaining in the first period with his sixth of the year from junior assistant captain
Bryan Platt (Trumbull, Conn./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) and classmate
Marco Ferraro (Toronto, Ont./St. Michael's Buzzers (OJHL)). Lippa then put the Valiants ahead for good less than a minute later, taking feeds from McLean and junior co-captain
Eric Berglund (Sollentuna, Sweden/Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL)) for the goal.
Anderson added his second of the night at 9:41 of the second stanza from junior
Oscar Arfelt (Stockholm, Sweden/Connecticut Oilers (EHL)) and senior co-captain
Stephen Gaul (Downers Grove, Ill./Springfield Pics (USPHL)), the only goal of the period. McLean finished off the scoring at the 8:46 mark of the third period with his third goal of the season from Lippa and Berglund.
Senior
Kyle Redmond (Toronto, Ont./Northfield Mount Hermon) got the start between the pipes for Manhattanville and stopped the final 13 shots he faced in picking up his third win of the year. Jake Tugnutt recorded 46 saves in a losing effort for King's.
The Valiants will finish off the home portion of the regular season with two games at Playland Ice Casino next weekend, beginning on Friday night with a 7 p.m. faceoff against Chatham University.
