Iannarilli's Triple Caps Late Inning Rally for Baseball in Win over Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Sophomore Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) broke a 2-all tie with a two-run triple as part of a four-run eighth inning, propelling the Manhattanville College baseball team past the Montclair State Redhawks 6-4 in a non-conference game at Yogi Berra Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Iannarilli finished the day with three hits for Manhattanville (4-7), while freshman Jack Matero (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) added his first collegiate home run, and senior Austin Pollack (Harrison, N.Y./) added two RBI's for the Valiants. Joe Norton had two hits and scored two runs for Montclair State (11-6).

Norton singled and stole second in both the first and second innings, scoring the first two runs of the game for the Redhawks off senior Antonio Ogando (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic). The Valiants got one back in the top of the fourth when Matero launched a one-out solo shot.

While the Valiants were kept off the scoreboard in the fifth-through-seventh innings, Ogando and sophomore Danny Meduri (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) held the Redhawks to two walks and one single.

The Valiants loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the eighth with a single by senior Danny Gallagher (Nanuet, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) and walks to graduate student Chris Conklin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and junior Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun). After Matero popped out to third, Pollack tied the game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Gallagher. Iannarilli followed with the tie-breaking triple, and later came in to score on a wild pitch for the final run of the rally.

In the top of the ninth, with two out and nobody on, Scoggins doubled and Matero was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Pollack, who singled to right, driving in Scoggins. In the bottom of the frame, senior William Mohr (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) stranded the bases loaded to earn his first save of the season.

The Valiants are back in action at home on Friday against MAC Freedom foe FDU-Florham, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
