PURCHASE, NY – Three unanswered goals from Misericordia in the final 2:54 of regulation turned a one-goal lead for the Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team into a 15-13 loss in a MAC Freedom contest Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
Graduate student
Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) led all players with four goals while sophomores
Nick Delia (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and
T.J. Caccavo (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) each added hat tricks for Manhattanville (7-7, 2-3 MACF). Patrick Kellish, Chris Fleming, Brandon Winslow all had hat tricks for Misericordia (11-1, 4-1 MACF).
Junior
Tristan Green (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) struck first for the Valiants at 10:33 of the first quarter, and after Misericordia answered with two in a row, sophomore
Ryan Leonard (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) tied it at 6:00. The Cougars closed the quarter with three unanswered goals, one coming on a man up opportunity.
The Valiants answered Misericordia's three straight to end the first quarter with three straight to start the second quarter, with Murray sandwiching two of his four goals around Caccavo's first. After Misericordia took the lead back with goals by Sean McSwiggan and Jake Kocovsky, Murray completed his hat trick at 3:09 to make it 7-6 at the half.
Fleming and Murray traded goals to open the second half. After Paul Hanrahan and Kellish, on a man-up opportunity, both scored to make it 10-7, Manhattanville took over. Delia scored twice, with Caccavo adding his second of the day between the two, to tie things at 10 after three quarters. Caccavo completed his hat trick and gave the Valiants their first lead since 1-0 at 13:49 of the fourth.
After Nick Torzilli and Fleming scored 47 seconds apart to put Misericordia up 12-11, Delia and classmate
Will Duval (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay) scored 46 seconds apart, at 6:30 and 5:44, to put the Valiants up 13-12. But Winslow scored the game-tying and eventual game-winning goals at 2:54 and 1:36, and Kellish added some insurance with hat-trick completing mark in the final 20 seconds.
