DALLAS, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team was defeated by first-place Misericordia University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday evening, falling to the host Cougars by a 20-7 score at Mangelsdorf Field.
Senior
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) scored a game-high four goals for Manhattanville (7-7, 2-3 MAC Freedom), which falls into fifth place in the conference standings with two games remaining. The Valiants will need to win their last two games and receive some help in order to get back to the MAC Freedom Tournament for the second straight year.
Nance got the game off to a good start for Manhattanville, scoring 34 seconds into the contest to put the visitors ahead. The next three goals would go to the Cougars before Nance found the net again to get the Valiants within one 4:53 into the contest, and Misericordia then scored 10 in a row to take a 13-2 lead before another Nance tally capped the first-half scoring for both sides.
The Valiants were then outscored 7-4 in the second half, with senior
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) scoring twice and classmate
Christina Leva (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) adding a tally for the visitors, who were outshot by a 33-19 margin.
Sophomore
Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) made 10 saves for the Valiants between the pipes.
Manhattanville will look to keep its postseason hopes alive on Wednesday, when the Valiants return home to host DeSales University in a crucial MAC Freedom matchup at GoValiants.com Field beginning at 4 p.m.
