ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team dropped its 2018 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener to the conference pre-season favorite Eastern University Eagles 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 29, from Olson Field.
Eastern (6-2-1, 1-0 MACF) scored on a penalty kick in the 16th minute, the first goal allowed by Manhattanville (7-3, 0-1 MACF) in 317:08 of match time after three consecutive shutouts. The Eagles pulled away in the second half, with goals in the 60th and 63rd minute, respectively.
Jacob Myers ended Manhattanville's shutout streak with the 16th minute penalty kick. Off a corner kick in the 60th minute, Billy Walenda made it 2-0 Eagles, and Jacob Sankey scored the final goal of the match from 25 yards out about three minutes later.
The Valiants finished with three shots on goal, all stopped by Eastern's Anthony Hitchcock, who posted his second shutout of the season. Manhattanville's freshman goalkeeper
Charles Roberts (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) finished with four saves and allowed multiple goals in a match for just the second time in eight collegiate starts.
