Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 as Drew Scores Late

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College women's soccer team was defeated by Drew University 1-0 Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 5 at GoValiants.com field.

The Valiants (0-2-0) held their own for the majority of the match, keeping the Rangers (2-1-0) scoreless until the game's 87th minute. Drew's sophomore forward Sarah Racine, who had several close calls throughout the contest, was able to sneak one by Manhattanville's freshman keeper Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) from 20 yards out for the game's only score.

Neither squad was able get much of anything offensively in the first half, but in the second half each team started pushing forward. Manhattanville attempted all four of its shots in the second half, landing three on net. The Rangers took nine shots in the latter half, landing two on net. Minutes prior to her score, Racine also hit the post for Drew. The Valiants strong defense also forced the Rangers to send several other shots wide of the net in the later stages of the match.

Pyatsky faced four shots overall, stopping three of them for Manhattanville.

The Valiants will return to action Saturday, Sept. 8 when they play host to Purchase College in 2018-19's first "Battle for Anderson Hill Road" between the two neighboring schools. Kickoff is schedule for 1:00 p.m..
