BRISTOL, R.I. – Junior
Maisey Kettlewood (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) and senior
Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y./Rye) both scored shootout goals while sophomore goalie
Elaina Nacinovich (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) stopped all four shootout attempts she faced for the Manhattanville College field hockey team in a 3-2 victory over the Roger Williams University Hawks Saturday, Sept. 8, at Bayside Field.
Junior
Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) scored both goals for Manhattanville (1-2) in regulation, her first two of the season, including the game-tying goal with 3:17 left in the second half. Thomas had previously tied the game at 25:25 of the first half.
Manhattanville dominated the two 10-minute overtime periods, outshooting Roger Williams 11-5, but Hawks' goalie Callie Flanagan made a number of spectacular saves, including four in a nine-second period in the second overtime to send the game to a penalty shootout, Manhattanville's first since October 2016. The Valiants finished the game with a 19-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Kettlewood and Antinozzi scored on Manhattanville's first and second attempts, respectively, of the penalty shootout, providing more than enough offensive support for Nacinovich, who earned her second collegiate victory.
Manhattanville wraps up its weekend in New England tomorrow, Sept. 9, when the team travels north to Portland, Maine for a 12 p.m. match against the University of Southern Maine Huskies.
