Four Valiants Score in Double Figures for Men’s Basketball in Road Loss at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, PA. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball team fell in a road contest to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival DeSales University Wednesday night, Jan. 16, by a score of 92-62.

For the Valiants (7-9, 1-4 MACF), four players scored in double-figures, led by sophomore Sean Smith, Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart), and junior co-captain JoJo Cobbs (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff), as the two had 13 points apiece. Smith was also the only player to record double-digit rebounds as he pulled down a game-high 12 for the double-double, his eighth of the season. Rookies Matt Bielenda (Wethersfield, Conn./Xavier) and Connor Yetman (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College (H.S.)) also notched double digits in scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The hosting Bulldogs (12-4, 5-0 MACF) were paced by Tracy Simsick's game-best 34 points, while Matt Kachelries dished out a high of 13 assists.

DeSales used Manhattanville's turnovers for the largest scoring margin, as the Bulldogs outscored the Valiants 24-8 in points off turnovers. The two teams were pretty even on the offensive boards as Manhattanville tied DeSales 11-11 in second-chance points.

The Valiants will look to bounce back this Saturday, Jan. 19, on their home court of Kennedy Gymnasium in Purchase, N.Y., when they host Eastern University for another MAC Freedom contest. Tipoff between Manhattanville and the Eagles is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
