Four Valiants in Double Figures as Women's Basketball Posts Strong MAC Freedom Win Over Delaware Valley

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team had one of its best shooting and rebounding games of the season as the Valiants posted a commanding 74-50 win over the Delaware Valley University Aggies in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Saturday, Jan. 26 at Kennedy Gymnasium.

Senior Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) led all scorers with 20 points while the sophomore trio of Spencer Shore (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) (15),  Jykayla Elting (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) (12) and Sarah Coutu (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) (10) all joined her in double figures; Elting added nine rebounds and a game-high three blocks while Coutu added six rebounds and eight assists. Freshman Ali Mikaele (Silver Spring, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal School) narrowly missed out on a triple-double, finishing with nine points, 11 rebounds and a season-high eight assists. As a team, Manhattanville (14-4, 5-3 MACF) shot better than 45 percent from the floor while posting a +16 rebounding margin on Delaware Valley (8-11, 2-6 MACF). Domanique Moser led the Aggies with 19 points.

Manhattanville scored the game's first seven points, capped by a Shore three-pointer. Delaware Valley, held scoreless for the first 4:36 of the game, worked its way back to 11-all at the end of the opening quarter, courtesy of six points from Danielle Skedzielewski.

Just like the opening quarter, Manhattanville started the second with seven straight points, kickstarted by a three-pointer by senior Jess Nichols-Larosa (Randolph, Mass./Randolph). The Aggies made back-to-back three's to cut the Manhattanville lead to one, but a McGuire lay-up and another Shore three-pointer pushed the lead back up to six. Delaware Valley closed the deficit to within one possession on three separate occasions, but the Valiants held the lead through the rest of the quarter, opening an eight-point margin, 34-26, at the half.

The Valiants maintained at least a six-point lead throughout the third quarter, eventually opening a 14-point cushion, 52-38, on a McGuire lay-up in the final 30 seconds. McGuire had eight of Manhattanville's 18 points in the quarter. That 14 point-lead doubled to 28 in the final 90 seconds of regulation before the Aggies recorded the game's final four points. In all, the Valiants five starters (McGuire, Shore, Elting, Coutu, and Mikaele) all finished with at least nine points, five rebounds, and two assists apiece.

MAC Freedom play continues Wednesday, Jan. 30 for the Valiants at 6 p.m. on the road against the Wilkes University Colonels.
