PURCHASE, N.Y. – Seniors
Geena Catalano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and
Jess Nichols-Larosa (Randolph, Mass./Randolph) put on a pair of career performances for the Manhattanville College women's basketball team in a 90-52 non-conference win over the John Jay College Bloodhounds on Saturday, Jan. 5 from Kennedy Gymnasium.
Catalano posted her first collegiate double-double with career-highs in points (12) and rebounds (11) while Nichols-Larosa joined Catalano in double figures with a career-high 10 points, making four of her six shots, including both of her three-point attempts. Sophomore
Sarah Coutu (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) finished with a game-high 22 points, adding five rebounds, five steals and five assists. Senior

Amanda Pemberton (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) and freshman
Ali Mikaele (Silver Spring, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal School) combined for 22 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and 10 of Manhattanville's (11-1) 21 steals. All'aha Albright had a game-high 26 points and Katie Healy pitched in 14 for John Jay (6-5).
McGuire, Coutu, and Mikaele combined for Manhattanville's first 14 points as the Valiants ended the first quarter with a 21-6 lead, holding John Jay to just 15.4 percent from the field (two-for-13) in the opening 10 minutes while forcing eight turnovers.

Spencer Shore (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) started the second quarter on a joint 9-0 run as the Valiants' lead grew to 24 points. John Jay answered with five straight points, but Manhattanville countered right back with a 13-5 run to end the half, taking a 43-15 lead to the locker room, capped by Nichols-Larosa's first three-pointer in the final 20 seconds.
John Jay turned up the intensity at the start of the second half, going on an 8-0 run while forcing six Manhattanville turnovers, holding the Valiants without a point for the first 3:01 of the quarter. Shore and Coutu got the offense re-started with back-to-back three-pointers, while Coutu converted a four-point play, giving Manhattanville a 55-25 lead just shy of the midway point of the period. Karina Cruz (Kissimmee, Fla./Poinciana) scored 11 straight points for Manhattanville to end the quarter.
The Manhattanville bench party continued in the fourth quarter, with all 20 Valiants points coming by way of their reserves. Catalano and Nichols-Larosa both reached double figures while sophomore
Julia Borsari (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and freshman
Nicole Trapp (Moodus, Conn./Nathan Hale-Ray High School) joined them on the scoresheet as the team reached 90 points for just the second time this season.
MAC Freedom play resumes for the Valiants on Wednesday when the King's College Monarchs head east for a doubleheader at Kennedy Gymnasium. Tip-off for the women's game is slated for 8 p.m. with the men's game scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip.
