MAHWAH, N.J. – The Manhattanville College field hockey program took home its third straight win on Wednesday, Oct. 2 against Ramapo College. The statistics and score between both teams were very similar throughout the game until the Valiants sealed the lead in the final three minutes to bring home a 2-1 win.
The Valiants (7-3) played catch up after the first two minutes. Sophomore
Zoe Fillebrown (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) tallied two saves before Ramapo (4-7) snuck a shot past her and took the lead. Attempting to match the score, freshman
Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) took three penalty corners but two shots by the Valiants were stopped by Roadrunner goalie Samantha Stolker.
Still trying to even the score in the first quarter, junior
Lexi Crites (Middleboro, Mass./Kents Hill School) passed in two corner opportunities. On the second attempt, Crites passed the ball to Boot, who passed it back to Crites. The forwad then ripped a shot past the Roadrunners tying the score.
Manhattanville, trying to pull ahead, took five shots in the second quarter as the defense held Ramapo to two shots. Fillebrown was able to deny the one sent her way sending the teams into the second half tied at one.
Intensity was high in the fourth quarter as both teams were battling for the win. With under four minutes to go the Valiants were given a corner attempt. Panzer passed the ball in, then received it back from junior
Arnise King (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and stuck her shot in the back of the net. Fillebrown made a clutch last save in the final minutes holding the Roadrunners and sealing with victory.
Both teams took 14 shots throughout the game. The Valiants scored two goals off 16 penalty corner opportunities and Fillebrown totaled eight saves.
The squad will return to GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, N.Y. this Saturday, Oct. 5, as they host Elms College in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) debut at 1:00 p.m.
