PATCHOGUE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's soccer team extended its win streak to 11 games with a come-from-behind victory over Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Two late goals from junior forward Fabori Conde (Conakry, Guinea/Seventy-First) propelled the Valiants to victory.
Both teams battled back and forth to start the game. In the first half, each team tallied five shots apiece and neither could find the back of the net. Each side struggled to capitalize on their opportunities in the half. Manhattanville (11-2-2, 8-0-1 Skyline) earned four corner kicks, but could not muster a goal and St. Joseph's-L.I. (2-11-1, 2-6-1 Skyline) recorded three shots on goal, but freshman goalkeeper Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) swallowed them all up. For the second-straight game Manhattanville entered the half tied at zero.
In the second half, the Eagles finally broke through. A shot made its way past Siwiec in the 64th minute to give St. Joseph's-L.I. a one-goal lead. Despite being down late in the game, the Valiants did not panic. Less than ten minutes later, in the 72nd minute, Conde tallied an unassisted goal to tie the game at one. Five minutes after that, Conde struck again. This time he was assisted by sophomore Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) to make the score 2-1. The 2-1 scoreline remained until the final whistle and Manhattanville escaped with yet another win.
This season, the Valiants have never wavered when their backs have been against the wall. This comeback win adds to the four overtime wins they have already this season. The team currently sits tied atop the Skyline standings with just two games remaining.
Manhattanville takes the field again at home on Saturday, Oct. 26, against Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence College. The Crimson and White will look to defend their undefeated home record on GoValiants.com Field starting at 1:00 P.M.
