Field Hockey Grabs Another NECC Win Over New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Manhattanville College field hockey program improved its win streak to 10 with a 3-1 win against New England College on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Valiants have extended their New England Colligate Conference (NECC) record to 6-0 which means they will be one of the top-two seeds going into the NECC playoffs. Tomorrow, Oct, 27, will decide if they take first or second and receive home field advantage in the playoffs.

The Valiants' (14-3,6-0 NECC) defense held the Pilgrims (7-9,3-3 NECC) to zero goals in the first quarter. The team blocked a shot and sophomore Zoe Fillebrown (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) had three saves. Senior Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College) found fellow senior Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) open in the circle. Thomas ripped a shot and put Manhattanville ahead by one.

The Valiants took three shots right off the bat to start the second quarter. Senior Maisey Kettlewood (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) took a fourth shot after she received the ball from junior Lexi Crites (Middleboro, Mass./Kents Hill School). Kettlewood's shot went past New England's goalie Ellie Philben and increased the score 2-0. The Pilgrims took three more shots that quarter trying to advance the score but Fillebrown denied those chances.

Eleven seconds into the third quarter the Pilgrims scored their first goal of the day.  Manhattanville tried to rebuttal the goal with seven shots but none were successful. However, six minutes into the fourth quarter sophomore Raquel Brown (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) came up from defense and scored for the Valiants.

The team will play their final game of the regular-season tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 27 in Bangor, Maine at 12 p.m. If the Valiants defeat Husson University, they will secure the top seed going into the NECC Playoff Tournament.
