FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's soccer team defeated Skyline Conference opponent Farmingdale State College by a score of 4-0 to end regular season play, Tuesday, Oct. 29. The team scored all four goals in the second half on the way to their way sixth shutout victory of the season.
The first half saw no goals. Manhattanville (13-2-2, 10-0-1 Skyline) outshout Farmingdale (9-10, 6-5 Skyline) five to three in the half, but could not find the back of the net. There were 10 fouls in a tight first 45 minutes and freshman midfielder Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) picked up a yellow card. The Valiants were tied at halfway mark but did not wait long to assert themselves coming out of the break.
The Crimson and White struck immediately when junior defender Jeffrey Discua (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) knocked in a header on a corner kick in the 47th minute off a ball served in by junior midfielder Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil). Then, in the 65th minute, Manhattanville knocked in three goals in the span of 10 minutes to put the game away. Freshman forward Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) scored a goal on an effort assisted by sophomore midfielder Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) to start the run. This was followed by two goals from junior forward Fabori Conde (Conakry, Guinea/Seventy-First) in the 69th and 74th minutes.
The 4-0 score line held until the end and the Valiants extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games. Conde tallied two goals for the third straight game and Bravo Olle notched three assists to bring his single season total to 16, which is the most in a single season in program history.
With the win, Manhattanville clinched the No. 2 seed in Skyline postseason play and earned a first-round bye. The team will host the winner of the Maritime and United States Merchant Marine Academy matchup. The game will take place at home on GoValiants.com Field, Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 4:00 P.M.
