Hayes Sets Single-Season Assists Mark as Women’s Soccer Improves to 4-0 in Skyline Play

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – With three assists in the 6-2 victory over Skyline Conference foe St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn today, Saturday, Oct. 5, sophomore Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) has 12 helpers on the season – now the Manhattanville College women's soccer program's single-season record. Hayes unseats the previous leader in Valiant great Sylvie Madsen, who notched 11 assists three times in 1982, 1984 and 1985.

The Valiants (6-5, 4-0 Skyline) started quickly as junior Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep) received a pass from Hayes and scored to make it 1-0 over the Bears (6-6, 1-3 Skyline) in the ninth minute. Reigning Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Rookie of the Month Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) was next to score. Pacheco set up the freshman this time, as Aracena tallied the goal to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute.

Deserae Sequeira of St. Joe's made it 2-1 briefly – her first of two goals – in the 39th minute before freshman Izzy Rosa (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) notched a goal, assisted by Hayes for her second of the day, to make it 3-1 in the 45th minute, with just 00:49 remaining in the first half.

Sophomore Amaya Gonzalez (Buena Park, Calif./Western) got the action started in the second half, scoring off a Hayes' pass in the 50th minute. This was the third – and record-breaking – assist of the game for the sophomore from Oregon. Pacheco followed with her second of the game to make it 5-1 in the 51st, unassisted. Following a goal three minutes later by Sequeira, Aracena scored her second of the game in the 54th to make it 6-2 as the last goal of the game. Senior Samira Davis (Stockholm, Sweden/Kungsholmens Gymnasium) had the assist on the play.

The Crimson and White will return to the pitch this Wednesday night, Sept. 9, for a road non-conference match at Kean University in Union, N.J. at 7:30 p.m.
