FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team qualified for the Skyline Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed out of six teams following a 7-3 in-conference regular-season record. They began with a victory over No. 5 St. Joseph's College-Long Island in the first round, followed by a 1-0 win over top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College in the semifinals. On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, the Valiants faced second-seeded Farmingdale State College in the championship game, but unfortunately were unable to emerge victorious and saw their run end in a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Rams.
Sophomore keeper
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was kept busy all day long as she made a career-high-tying 14 saves on 19 shots. Manhattanville (11-10) was unfortunately unable to muster any offense against Farmingdale State (14-5-3), as the Rams held a distinct advantage (19-0) in shots on goal. They scored one in the first half, as the Crimson and White kept it close, but managed four more in the second to cement their victory and clinch the NCAA berth on behalf of the Skyline Conference.
For the Valiants, their season comes to an end. But they are able to look back on it fondly knowing that they reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2009, earned a bid to the conference tournament for the first time since 2010 and saw five different players eclipse the 20-point mark on the season, including a team-best 36 from junior forward
Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep).
Following a strong first showing in their first season back in the Skyline since 2006, the Crimson and White now begin to prep for a 2020 campaign that will surely have high expectations following this season's deep run into the Skyline tournament.
