Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Game Against New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY – Playing its first road game of the season, the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of 2019, falling to the SUNY New Paltz Hawks 22-12 Saturday, March 16.

Sophomore Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) scored a career-high four goals for Manhattanville (3-1), while classmate Melissa O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) both added three. O'Mara and fellow sophomore Bella Cosentino (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) added two assists apiece while freshmen Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) and Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) each scored a goal for the Valiants. Amy Hofer had seven goals for New Paltz (3-2), while Tara Bovich added four.

Just 16 seconds in, Keenan scored off an assist from Cosentino, giving the Valiants an early lead. New Paltz responded with the next five goals before DeStasio and Keenan (again) scored 25 seconds apart, drawing Manhattanville within two, 5-3, with just under 19 minutes left in the opening half. New Paltz responded with the next four goals of the game before O'Mara and Logue kept the Valiants within striking distance at 9-5 with 11:34 left in the half. The Hawks closed the half on an 8-1 run, taking a 17-6 lead after the opening 30 minutes.

Each team traded 3-0 spurts to open the second half scoring, with DeStasio scoring two and O'Mara adding one, leaving the score 20-9 in favor of the Hawks with just over 12 minutes to play. Hofer added two more and Keenan, O'Mara and DeStasio each added one for Manhattanville to close out the game's scoring. Keenan finished with 10 draw controls, giving her 34 in her last three games.

The Valiants are back in action at GoValiants.com Field Wednesday, March 20 at 4 p.m. against the Golden Eagles from St. Joseph's College – Long Island.
