WAYNE, NJ -- The Manhattanville College baseball team dropped a 9-4 non-conference game to the William Paterson University Pioneers Wednesday, March 20 from Jeff Albies Field.
Junior
Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) finished 3-for-4 and scored a run, classmate
Luke Tebolt (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) finished with two hits and two RBI's and fellow junior
Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) finished 2-for-3 for Manhattanville (4-6). Sophomores
Luke Shaffer (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and
Matt Tuite (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) both added an RBI extra-base hit for the Valiants. Eight different players finished with at least one hit and one run scored for William Paterson (10-3).
A two-run triple and sacrifice fly put the Valiants in a 3-0 hole entering the third inning. Lynch took full advantage of a dropped foul ball, doubling down the left field line, then advancing to third on a wild pitch. Tebolt followed with a double of his own, putting the Valiants on the board, 3-1. William Paterson added two in the bottom half of the inning, then three more in the third, going up 8-1 entering the fifth.
With one out in the top of the fifth, freshman
Johnny Mariano (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) singled up the middle, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After advancing to third on a groundout, Mariano scored on a Tebolt single.
The Valiants tacked on two more in the top of the sixth. After Iannarilli singled with one-out, freshman pinch-runner
Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a double by Shaffer. After a fly out, Tuite doubled down the left field line, plating Shaffer.
After William Paterson added a run in the bottom of the seventh, Manhattanville loaded the bases with one out, but were unable to cash in on the opportunity.
On the mound, senior
Rami Masani (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke), junior
John Cirillo (Stormville, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), and freshmen
DJ Nakashima (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid Pacific Institute) and
Nick Carita (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) all tossed at least one scoreless inning in relief.
After road trips to New Jersey each of the past two days, the Valiants are now off until Saturday when Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play resumes with a home doubleheader against the King's College Monarchs. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 1 p.m.
