FISHKILL, NY – The Manhattanville College baseball team pulled off a remarkable win Tuesday April 10, rallying from seven runs down in the eighth inning, winning 13-12 in 10 innings against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights.
Sophomore
Jack Matero (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) finished 3-for-5 with five RBI's for Manhattanville (14-10) and junior
Stephen Merrill (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) finished 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI's. Senior
Michael Poggioreale (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) and freshman
Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) were a combined 4-for-11 with five runs scored for the Valiants. Steven Mirra was 5-for-6 with three runs scored for Mount Saint Mary (10-12).
The Knights led 4-0 after the first inning, 9-3 after the fifth and 12-5 after the seventh. Matero had an RBI single and two-run double, driving in three of Manhattanville's first five runs.
With one out in the eighth, Merrill, Poggioreale and Quatrochi all singled, with Merrill coming around to score on Quatrochi's base hit. After a groundout, senior

Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) both walked, with Iannarilli's walk forcing home classmate
Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham). Sophomore
Hathaway Roper (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) then delivered a run-scoring single and Merrill followed with a game-tying two-run single.
The Knights put the winning run on third base in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't score, sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the 10
th, Iannarilli, who homered twice in a 16-0 win over SUNY Maritime last night, clocked another one, giving the Valiants their first lead of the game. Freshman
Nick Carita (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees), who got the final out of the ninth, closed out the win for Manhattanville in the bottom of the 10th.
The Valiants return home to host Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom front-runner Misericordia University Friday April 12 at Manhattanville Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
