Men's Tennis Rolls to Victory Over FDU

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Following a weekend setback versus Wilkes University, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team picked up an impressive 9-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday, April 10 at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.

Sophomore Juan Huertas (Bogotá, Colombia/La Salle (H.S.) (Calif.)) got the Valiants started with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory over FDU's Rich Bennett in first singles action. In second singles, sophomore Jan Senkerik (Zlin, Czech Republic/The Hill Academy) picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kevin Weller. Freshman Alvaro de la Plaza (Malaga, Spain/Homeschooled (Laurel Springs, Calif.)) was equally impressive, defeating Johnny Bricker in third singles (6-2. 6-0). In fourth singles, junior Alex Fleischman (Riverside, Conn./King) had to go all three sets, but was also able to pick up a victory with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 win, defeating J.T. Murray. Freshman Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) also picked up a three-set win versus Chris Fiorenza in fifth singles, winning the match 6-4, 4-6, 12-10. Sophomore Maguire Balke (Yardville, N.J./Steinert) finished off singles action for the Valiants with a straight set, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Michael Laneve in sixth singles.

Manhattanville was able to sweep doubles action as well, as Huertas and Senkerik picked up an 8-1 victoy in first doubles, followed by an 8-5 victory in second doubles by de la Plaza and Crowley. In third doubles, Fleischman and freshman Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) came away with an 8-4 victory, completing a prefect day for the Valiants, who improved to 2-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with the victory.

The Valiants return to the court Friday, April 12 at home in non-conference action versus Farmingdale State College, starting at 3:30 p.m.
