PURCHASE, N.Y. — Coming off a loss to conference opponent DeSales University earlier this week, the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team was unable to get back in the win column, falling 23-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play to Misericordia University Saturday, April 13 at GoValiants.com Field.
The Valiants found themselves in a hole early, as the Cougars scored twice in the first 55 seconds of the game to take an early 2-0 lead. From there, the visitors continued the offensive attack. Amy Roth scored three of the first four goals of the game as Manhattanville conceded 10 straight goals before finally getting on the board when sophomore midfielder
Diana Piacquadio (Port Washington, N.Y./Gilmour Academy) was able to find the back of the net on a man-up opportunity. However, the home team was unable to build off the goal, as Misericordia added four more goals in the first to take a 14-1 lead into the intermission.
Following two early goals that put the Cougars up by 15, Piacquadio was able to come through once again, scoring the second goal of the day for the Valiants just shy of the 10-minute mark of the second half. But that would be all the offensive Manhattanville would come up with on the day, as the visitors then went on a 7-0 run to close out the game following Piacquadio's second goal to claim a 23-2 victory.
On the day for the Valiants, Piacquadio scored twice, sophomore midfielder
Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) and freshman attack
Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) each collected two ground balls, and junior goalkeeper
Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) made 20 saves on the day.
The Valiants return to action Wednesday, April 17, when they continue MAC Freedom play with a matchup on the road at Delaware Valley University, with game time scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
