PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior
Desiree Buboi (Villa Park, Calif./Orange Lutheran) went 3-for-6 at the plate in Manhattanville College softball's Tuesday afternoon, April 2, doubleheader sweep of future Skyline Conference opponent the College of Mount Saint Vincent. In doing so, Buboi put her career hit total up to 181 to tie the program's all-time record.
Game 1
Graduate student
Alycia Feeney (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) started game one in the circle for the Valiants (18-1) and pitched 5.0 innings for the complete game victory. She allowed just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight batters as Manhattanville defeated the visiting Dolphins (5-11) by a score of 9-1 in five innings.
CMSV kicked off the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double, but that was the Dolphins only run of the day in either game. In the bottom of the second the Valiants exploded for six runs. Sophomore Isella Casillas began with a hard-hit bases loaded single off the pitcher's glove for the RBI. Rookie
Giovanna Liggett (Fountain Valley, Calif./Edison) was next to bat and was hit by a pitch for another bases loaded run. Buboi was up next and plated two with a double to center to make it 4-1. During the next at-bat, senior
Evonne Torres (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Pioneer), a wild pitch got away from the Dolphin hurler allowing Liggett to score and move Buboi over to third. Torres then singled through the left side for an RBI to make it 6-1.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the fourth when Buboi hit an RBI single to plate Casillas. Then in the bottom of the fifth, sophomore
Ali Orduna (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) hit a game-clinching, two-run double to seal the eight-run mercy rule and the 9-1 victory.
Game 2
The second half of the doubleheader started out quickly for the Valiants, as the home squad crushed the ball in the bottom of the first. Casillas led off with a double, and Liggett followed with a two-run shot to left to make it 2-0. With one out, Torres hit a solo home run, her sixth of the season, to make it 3-0.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the fifth when Torres knocked her second of the game out of the park, and her seventh of the season, to complete the scoring for the day. In the circle, senior
Aarin Hartenstein (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) picked up her eighth win of the season in seven scoreless innings. She allowed five hits and a walk and struck out five.
Manhattanville returns to the field Thursday afternoon, April 4, for a home non-conference doubleheader versus Rutgers University-Newark. The Valiants and Scarlet Raiders are scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
