Manhattanville scored three in the first, added four in the second, then tacked on five more in the third, with Iannarilli driving in three with doubles in both the first and second innings, and Merrill crushing a pair of two-run four-baggers in both the second and third innings.
The Valiants continued their hot start with a nine-run fourth inning, thanks in large part to a three-run homer from Shaffer and a three-run double by Matero, part of a run of eight straight Valiants who reached base safely in the frame.
The bats cooled a bit for Manhattanville in the fifth and sixth innings, as the visitors managed just one run across the two frames, but the offense started clicking again in the seventh. Sophomore
Matt Tuite (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) drove in Scoggins with an RBI single and Merrill reached six RBI's with a two-run single.
Freshman
Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) made it 27-8 in the eighth with a two-run single, then made it 30-8 with another RBI single in the ninth, then scored on a single by sophomore
