EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. — The Manhattanville women's tennis team closed out their 2019 season following a 5-1 loss to Wilkes University in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Semifinals Wednesday, May 1 at Ralston Athletic Complex.
Freshman
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and senior
Lizza Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) picked up the win for the Valiants in first doubles play, winning an 8-7 decision. In second doubles, freshman
Samantha Altman (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and junior
Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) fell by an 8-0 score, followed by an 8-1 loss in third doubles for freshman
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and senior
Stephanie Stumm (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior).
Altman dropped a straight set matchup in fourth singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0, followed by a loss by Stumm in fifth singles by the same score. Ulzheimer fell 6-0. 6-0 as well in sixth singles, giving the Colonels the five wins needed to clinch the match.
The Valiants ended their first season since reinstatement as the No. 4 seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament, and will now move to the Skyline Conference in the 2019-2020 season following an impressive first season for the team.
