Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team won its second overtime thriller of the season 3-2 over Drew University today, Sept. 14.
The Valiants (2-2-1) were aggressive right off the bat when freshman
Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) intercepted a pass from Drew (3-3) goalie Jason Adamo. Pardo took Adamo one-on-one and found the back of the net within the first five minutes.
Trying to come from behind, Ranger Tyler Kwaak took a shot on goal but freshman
Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) was able to deny his attempt. Siwiec stopped four shots from the Rangers in the first half.
Trying to gain more of a lead, junior
Fabori Conde (Conakry, Guinea/Seventy-First) and sophomore
Cody LaCava (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) each took shots that Adamo was able to track and save. Off a long throw-in from the right, Drew's Ian Sawicki headed the ball past Siwiec tying the game at one. Only a few minutes later, Ranger Aidan Cserhat received a pass and tipped the ball over Siwiec's head. Although the Valiants were down, this did not stop their momentum.
In the 76th minute sophomore
Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) blasted a shot from 30 yards out that went over Adamo's head into the left corner. The shot Diaz took was just enough to take the Valiants into overtime.
The Valiants are experienced in extra time having played in two double overtime matches already this season. Freshman
Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) had a break away, he passed the ball off to LaCava who placed his shot in the back of the net and led the Valiants to a victory.
The Valiants will return to play next on GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, N.Y., on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 7:00 p.m. against Lehman College.
