Volleyball Sweeps Lehman for Third Straight Victory

BRONX, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-8, 25-5, 25-11) victory on the road Wednesday night, Sept. 18, over Lehman College. The win is the third straight for the Valiants, all of which have come in straight sets.

The Crimson and White (5-4) dominated the Lightning (1-10) from start to finish as they outhit the home squad .344 to -.204 in a very efficient night. Additionally, Manhattanville notched an astounding 26 service aces as a team, led by a match-high eight from rookie libero Geena Torres (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush). Additionally, she finished with seven digs and three assists.

Offensively, hitters sophomore Alejandra Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Rosa-Bell) and senior Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) notched seven kills apiece, the former hitting .294 on 17 swings and the latter finishing with a .214 percentage on 14 attack attempts. Freshman setter Vianca Vital (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Perpetuo Socorro), who had a streak of four double-doubles – including one triple-double – heading into the night, narrowly missed out on her fifth straight and finished with match-highs in assists (22) and digs (9). She added three aces as well.

Freshman Caylee Premoli (White Plains, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) and junior Leslie Morales (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) each contributed to the large service ace total for the Valiants on the night. Premoli, in her fourth-career match, notched six aces, while Morales contributed five digs and four aces.

No rest for Manhattanville, however, as the Valiants return to the court for another non-conference road match tomorrow night, Thursday, Sept. 19, in New York against Baruch College at 6:00 p.m. The Crimson and White own a 15-14 all-time advantage against the Bearcats, winning the most recent match in three sets on a neutral court in Patchogue, N.Y., back in September of 2017.
