PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's soccer team opened Skyline Conference play on Friday, Sept. 20, with a record-breaking 19-0 win over Yeshiva University at GoValiants.com Field.
The 19 goals scored by the Valiants (3-4, 1-0 Skyline) were the most in program history. The women opened the scoring in the fifth minute when sophomore midfielder Brigid Sullivan (Vienna, Va./Paul VI Catholic) found the back of the net off an assist from junior midfielder Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep). The goal scoring only continued from their and after one half of play the Valiants led by a score of 8-0. Seven different players scored in the first half including senior defender Bella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) and junior defender Bella Fotino (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central), who each scored the first goals of their careers.
In the second half, Manhattanville found the back of the net 11 more times. Junior midfielder Natalie Pelaez (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) became the third Valiant to record her first-career goal in the 65th minute when she scored on a penalty kick.
It was an impressive day for Manhattanville and several different Valiants stacked the stat sheet. Senior forward Samira Davis (Stockholm, Sweden/Kungsholmens Gymnasium) tallied two goals and two assists, freshman midfielder Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) recorded three goals and one assist, freshman midfielder Izzy Rosa (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) had two goals and one assist, Pacheco finished with two goals and two assists, sophomore forward Amaya Gonzalez (Buena Park, Calif./Western) recorded three goals and junior forward Eileen Fiore (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) tallied a goal.
Two players made their way into the Valiant record books. Sullivan had three goals and two assists which gave her eight points in the game and that was good for fourth-most points in a single game in program history. Not to be outshined, sophomore defender Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) tallied three assists which tied the program record for most assists in a single game.
To round out the astounding statistical game for Manhattanville, sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) earned her first shutout of the season. In total, 10 different players scored, and three different players recorded hat-tricks.
The Valiants will look to build off this impressive performance and grab another conference win when they play Purchase College at home on GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, N.Y. on Saturday, September 28 for The Battle of Anderson Hill Road.
