Women's Soccer Drops Road Game to Drew

MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team fell to Drew University 6-1 in Wednesday's (Sept. 4) matchup. Unfortunately, three early goals are what set the Valiants back in this match up.

In the first half of play, sophomore Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was tested by Rangers (1-1) Alexa Simon, Sarah Racine and Gabby Gilgorri. The three opponents were able to get the ball past Pyatsky to make the score 3-0 in the 15th minute in Drew's favor.

Attempting to start the Valiant's (0-2) offensive momentum, junior Ashley Pacheco (Throggs Neck, N.Y./Pelham Prep) took the first shot, resulting in Ranger Anthi Panayides denying her threat. In following minutes, Manhattanville had a corner opportunity at hand when sophomore Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) stepped up to take the kick, but the chance was knocked away by Drew's defense.

Though Valiants still trailed, their fight continued when freshman Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) dribbled around her defender to sink a shot over Panayides head. Aracena was able to put the first and only goal on the board for Manhattanville.

Additional shots were taken in the second half by junior Natalie Pelaez (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), Hayes, Aracena and sophomore Brigid Sullivan (Vienna, Va./Paul VI Catholic) but four went wide and Ranger goalie Angela Accetturo tallied two saves. The Crimson and White were outshot 24-10 and had only one corner opportunity throughout the game.

Manhattanville will host its first home game of the season this Saturday, Sept. 4, at 4:00 p.m. against John Jay College.
