ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team battled back from an early deficit to tie United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponent Nazareth College, Friday, Jan. 24. With the tie, the Valiants remained unbeaten in conference play.

Action picked up midway through the second period. Manhattanville (9-5-3, 7-0-1 UCHC) cut the Golden Flyers' 2-0 lead in half thanks to a goal from sophomore forward Ana Tittmann (Salisbury, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional). Junior forward Ashley DeFusco (Cranston, R.I./La Salle Academy) was credited with the lone assist on the goal. With four minutes left in the second, the Valiants struck again. Senior defender Ali Howard (Rye, N.Y./Rye) found the back of the net off an assist from senior forward Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery). A strong second period saw Manhattanville tied with Nazareth (12-2-1, 6-1-1 UCHC) at two goals apiece.

The Crimson and White took their first lead of the game early in the third period. Sabia scored Manhattanville's third goal and junior forward Adelle Clark (Lantzville, B.C./Ontario Hockey Academy) was credited with the assist. The Valiants one goal advantage only lasted seven minutes. Nazareth put the puck past senior goalie Taylor Elias (Winnipeg, Man./Canadian International Hockey Academy) to tie the game. The 3-3 score line held until the end of the regulation and the game went into overtime. Despite five minutes of overtime play, no winner was decided and both teams left the ice having to be content with the 3-3 tie.

Sabia led all Manhattanville scorers in the game with two points, a goal and an assist. Elias did her part as well, keeping her team in the game by making 33 saves on 36 shots. Her record moved to 6-2-2 after the day's result. The Valiants successfully killed of all three Nazareth power plays and went 1-5 on their own power play opportunities. It took a gritty effort from the Crimson and White to earn a tie, they found themselves outshot 36-18 on the day, but that did not seem to matter.

Manhattanville returns to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 25, once again on the road, against UCHC opponent Utica College. Puck drop is set for 2:00 P.M. at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y. The Valiants will look to keep their unbeaten conference record alive against the Pioneers.
