BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball team won its third straight today, Saturday, Jan. 25, to improve to 5-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Valiants defeated St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn 69-58 on the road as nine players scored at least one basket, led by a game-high 16 points from junior
Mike Granda (Monroe Township, N.J./St. Joseph) and 14 points from
Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell).
The Crimson and White (10-6, 5-2 Skyline) are now just one win off their mark of 11 from last season following their 11-point victory over the hosting Bears (6-10, 2-5 Skyline). Granda added a game-high-tying six assists to his night and led all players with four steals. Dunn had a very efficient night from the floor, shooting 6-of-9 overall, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Sophomore
Matt Bielenda (Wethersfield, Conn./Xavier) came off the bench for 10 minutes and finished with a stat line of nine points off 4-of-6 shooting to go with five boards, an assist and a steal. Rookie guard
Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) led all players with a season-best eight boards in 29 minutes off the pine, adding six points, two assists and a steal.
Overall, the Valiants eventually took a 13-point lead in the first half and never lost control of their advantage, even stretching it out to a game-best 15 points with 1:30 remaining in regulation. The visitors outscored St. Joe's 23-12 off the bench and 15-7 in transition, notching 11 steals as a squad.
Manhattanville returns to action when St. Joseph's College-Long Island comes to Purchase, N.Y., for a scheduled 8:00 p.m. tipoff at Kennedy Gymnasium on Tuesday night, Jan. 28, in the second game of a Skyline doubleheader. The Valiants lead the Golden Eagles 20-4 all-time, including winning the last two meetings in 2017 and 2016.
