Women's Hockey Victorious on Senior Night

RYE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's hockey team took home a 4-2 victory over United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponent Chatham University, Saturday, Feb. 22. Four different seniors recorded a point on senior night and senior forward Janet Xu (Edmonton, Alta./Ontario Hockey Academy) led them all with three assists. 

The Valiants took a commanding lead early in the game. They had a 3-0 lead after one period and senior defender Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride (JWHL)) led all scorers in the period with two points, one goal and one assist. Junior forward Tianna Lopes (West Vancouver, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) then added another goal on the power play in the second period to take a 4-0 lead. Chatham (8-14-2, 4-10-2 UCHC) added one goal of their own in the second to make the Manhattanville (15-7-3, 12-2-1 UCHC) lead 4-1 after two period of play. 

The Cougars tallied one more goal with 30 seconds left in the third period to cut the lead to two and make the final score 4-2. Senior forward Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) and senior defender Ali Howard (Rye, N.Y./Rye) each assisted earlier in the game to close out the senior scoring on the night. Lopes finished the night with two goals of her own and continues to lead the Valiants in scoring. 

Senior goalie Taylor Elias (Winnipeg, Man./Canadian International Hockey Academy) earned the win in her final regular season game for Manhattanville and made five saves on six shots while splitting time with freshman goalie Lena Flores (Chicago, Ill./Guerin College Prep)

The Valiants return to action next weekend, Saturday, Feb. 29, to start UCHC postseason play. The game will take place at a yet to be determined time at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y.
