Women’s Lacrosse Tops Wesley 19-8 Behind Dominant First Half

DOVER, Del. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team continued its hot start to the 2020 season today, Wednesday, March 11, picking up the 19-8 win on the road over Wesley College.
 
The Valiants (4-1) started off the game on fire, scoring the first four goals against the Wolverines (4-1). Manhattanville ended up breezing through the first half with a 15-2 advantage en route to the 11-goal victory.
 
Sophomore Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) – fresh off her career-high-tying eight-goal performance over the weekend – led all players with six goals and a game-high-tying seven points. Junior Melissa O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who had missed the last two games due to injury, also finished with seven points, including five goals. The duo combined for 10 draw controls, while Keenan caused two turnovers and O'Mara grabbed a team-high-tying four ground balls.
 
Junior Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) dished out a game-high five assists to finish with six points. She entered the day tied for 13th in all of NCAA Division III with 14 assists and currently leads the Skyline Conference with 19 assists. Rookie Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) continued her strong freshman season with four more goals to finish with five points. Another first year Valiant, Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell), finished with a game-high seven draw controls to go with two caused turnovers, two ground balls, a goal and an assist.
 
A trio of defenders also impacted the stat sheet for the Valiants. Senior Tatianna Caro (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) led all Crimson and White players with three caused turnovers and added three ground balls. Junior Bella Cosentino (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) and sophomore Kasey Molito (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) each caused a pair of turnovers, while the latter added two ground balls. Senior backstop Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) picked up her fourth win of the season in the cage for the Valiants. She stopped four shots and grabbed two ground balls.
 
Manhattanville is scheduled to return to action next Wednesday afternoon, March 18, at 4:30 p.m. at Bryan Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., outside Philadelphia. The Valiants were previously scheduled to host Gordon College this Saturday, March 14, but the Fighting Scots were forced to cancel the trip to Purchase as they are unable to field a full squad.
