UPDATED Manhattanville Athletics Statement on COVID-19

| By:
PURCHASE, N.Y. (March 13, 2020) – Today the Skyline Conference announced the cancelation of the spring athletic seasons as well as their championships. This comes after the NCAA announced yesterday the cancelation of all remaining 2019-20 winter championships, as well as all spring 2020 championships. These decisions also signify the end of Manhattanville's 2019-20 athletic seasons.

Statement from Julene Caulfield, Manhattanville Director of Athletics and Recreation:

"While I firmly believe this is the right thing to do for the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, I would be remiss to not recognize the disappointment, anger and confusion you are all feeling. Please know that we are all in this together, we are all grieving what could have been, the championships we could have won, the records that were to be broken and the games that were to be played. The time and preparation you have undoubtedly put in behind the scenes throughout your preseason training and early-season games does not go unnoticed and myself, along with your coaches, the entire department and the rest of the College community are saddened by the fact that you will not be able to work toward your ultimate goal of competing for a championship."

Despite the immediate cancelation of athletic competition, earlier today, on behalf of the NCAA Division III Management and Presidents Councils, the Division III Administrative Committee took the following actions in order to help quell these difficult circumstances:
  • Student-athlete seasons of participation and eligibility: Approved a blanket waiver for all student-athletes participating in spring sports as follows: (a) Waive the use of a season of participation for all student-athletes in spring sports. If an institution continues or re-starts its season, this relief would still exist; and (b) Waive the use of the spring semester towards their limit of 10 semesters, regardless of whether they used a season.
"This is not how we envisioned our spring seasons going and, despite the high hopes many of us had for all of our programs, this was the only option in order to ensure the health and safety of all Manhattanville community members, especially our Valiant student-athletes," continued Caulfield.

Any questions, comments or concerns can be directed to the Manhattanville Athletics Department at 914-323-5280 or athletics@mville.edu.

PLEASE NOTE: Manhattanville has had no reported cases on campus or within the college community. These precautionary measures have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of all Manhattanville community members, including staff, faculty, students and their families.
