DOVER, DE. – The Manhattanville College baseball team traveled to Wesley College for a doubleheader, Saturday, March 7, and swept both games. They won the first game by a score of 6-4 and the second game by a final of 8-3.
The Valiants started strong in the first game, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Senior outfielder
Luke Tebolt (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) doubled to right field to send in one run and senior catcher
Joseph Silvestri (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) singled to center field to drive in two more runs. Wesley (2-9) began to gain momentum in the third inning thanks to a three-run homer that gave the Wolverines a 4-3 lead.
Manhattanville (4-5) was able to regain their lead in the sixth inning. Hits from freshman outfielder
Jake Parisi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) and senior shortstop
Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) drove in three more runs and the Valiants took a 6-4 advantage. The Wolverines were unable to answer and the game ended with a final score of 6-4.
The second game remained tight until the fifth inning. The Valiants trailed 3-2 headed into the fifth and then an RBI single from junior outfielder
Hathaway Roper (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) tied the game at three apiece. Doubles from senior second baseman
Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and sophomore first baseman
Zachary Feinstein (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) drove in three more runs and Manhattanville led 6-3 after five innings. The Valiants put up two more runs before the game was through and defeated Wesley by a score of 8-3.
It was a group effort on the mound for Manhattanville as seven different pitchers saw action between the two games. Senior pitcher
Justin Proteau (Wolcott, Conn./Canterbury School) picked up his second win of the season in the first game and junior pitcher
Luke Shaffer (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) picked up his second win of the season in the second game.
The Crimson and White return to action, tomorrow, Sunday, March 8, against John Jay College. The game is at Houlihan Field (Fordham University) in Bronx, N.Y. Manhattanville defeated John Jay earlier this season by a score of 11-2.
