Manhattanville Volleyball Rolls Past Yeshiva, 3-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College volleyball team collected their third straight win, blanking Yeshiva University at Kennedy Gymnasium on Sunday. The 3-0 win (25-2, 25-7, 25-2) improves the Valiant record on the year to 10-4 and 4-1 against Skyline Conference opponents.

Manhattanville had a .558 hitting percentage in the win, by far their highest mark of the season. The Valiants used 21 aces to roll past the Maccabees, their second most in a game this year behind only their 24 ace performance against Maritime on Sept. 28. Caylee Premoli (White Plains, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) recorded a career-high 12 aces in the win, while Grace Ballagas (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Robinson School) added a season-best eight of her own.

While the Valiants did not have many defensive opportunities, Ballagas and Premoli were also the team leaders in digs with five apiece. Vianca Vital (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Perpetuo Socorro) collected 16 of the team's 19 assists, bringing her season total to 336 and extending her double-digit assist streak to 44 dating back to her freshman year in 2019. On the attack, Hannah Pena (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) led the Crimson and White with 13 kills, matching her season-high from earlier in the week against Farmingdale State.

The Valiants wasted no time taking control of the contest. After trading points over the first two serves, Manhattanville went on a 22-0 run off the serves of Premoli to run away with the first set, 25-2. The Maccabees hung around at the start of the second frame, but with Manhattanville leading 10-7, the Valiants went on another sustained run with Premoli on the serve, scoring 15 straight to take the frame. Ballagas would be the pilot for the third's set success, as Militza De Hostos Gonzalez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/) killed Yeshiva's opening rally before giving way to the freshman libero's serves and 22 straight points. The Maccabees would score twice before an attack error got the serve back to Premoli who closed out the game with her 12th ace.
