Manhattanville Women's Soccer Gets Back Into Win Column With Shutout of Sarah Lawrence

YONKERS, N.Y. – Playing their last road game of the regular season, the Manhattanville College women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday night. The Valiants close out their road schedule with an impressive 5-1-1 record with the win, and improved to 8-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the Skyline Conference.

Three different goal scorers provided the offense for the Valiants, who outshot the Gryphons 12-3 on the night. Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) represented the only score of the first half, as the junior midfielder fired a shot past the Gryphons' Bridgette Lee in the 38th minute. Xiong's sixth goal of the season proved to be her first game-winner as a member of the Manhattanville roster as the Crimson and White defense prevented Sarah Lawrence from generating many opportunities in the offensive zone.

The Valiants would add a pair of insurance scores in the second half. Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) recorded her seventh goal of the year in the 58th minute, setting a new career-high for the senior. In the 81st minute, Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) netted her team-leading 11th goal to essentially put the game away.

After surrendering her first goal in six games in Saturday's overtime loss to Farmingdale State, Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was back to her shutout ways in the victory. The senior goalkeeper made a pair of saves for her seventh win of the year whilst lowering her goals-against average to 1.01 on the year.
