Manhattanville Women's Hockey Earns Series Split Against Arcadia

COLMAR, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team bounced back from Friday's loss with a 5-3 victory in Saturday afternoon's rematch against Arcadia University. The Valiants improve to 5-1 overall and in the UCHC with the victory.

The Valiants were able to erase a pair of one-goal deficits and used four straight scores to pick up the road win. Fjolla Berisha's (Mahopac, N.Y./Brewster Lady Bulldogs (NEGHL)) first multi-goal outing of her career led the Manhattanville offense, as the junior was able to tie the game up at 2-2 a minute and a half into the second period before going on to net the ultimate game-winner in the third.

After the Knights jumped out a 1-0 lead on their first shot of the day just 41 seconds into the contest, the Valiants were able to tie the score back up off of Taylor Ham's (Saugerties, N.Y./Millbrook School) goal in at 4:04, assisted by Tia Martignetti (Wilmington, Mass./Boston Junior Eagles (EHF)). The senior Ham had a phenomenal weekend in Pennsylvania, scoring three goals across the two games against Arcadia.

The Knights would take their second lead of the day 9:45 into the first off Morganne Dee's goal. Berisha would net the equalizer this time around off assists from Faithe Harris (Castlegar, B.C./Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) and Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School), kickstarting the string of four-straight Manhattanville goals.

Laney Nash (Edmonds, Wash./Washington Wild (PNAHA)) would score on the power play 14:05 into the second off assists from Holly Meredith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Vermont Academy) and Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy). In the third, the Valiants would score twice in two minutes. Berisha netted her second off assisted from Cox and Miller at 7:31 before Virginia Birnie (Ontario, Canada/Rosethay Netherwood School) scored her first career goal off an assist by Nash 122 seconds later. Arcadia got one back on a power play goal at 15:47, but the Valiants were able to hold their two goal lead the rest of the way to split their first-ever series against Arcadia.

Austen Jewells got the start in net, spelling Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) for her first career start. The rookie netminder made 22 saves, sporting an .880 save percentage in her collegiate debut. Manhattanville won 25 of the 46 draws, led by eight wins by Miller. The Crimson and White were 1-for-2 on power plays while successfully killing 2 of the 3 Arcadia man advantages.
