NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team's win streak came to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Valiants fell the Albertus Magnus 5-2. The loss brings an end of a streak of five straight wins and moves Manhattanville's record on the season to 3-3-2.
Manhattanville struck first, getting on the board with
Niko Happo's (Kauniainen, Finland/Haukilahti Upper Secondary School) second goal of the year at 12:24 in the first. The Finnish senior was assisted by
Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Bishop's College School) on the tally, the junior forward's fifth helper of the year. The lead would not stick for long, as Albertus Magnus' Tyler Ignazzitto fired a shot home 32 seconds later to tie the game back at 1-1.
The Falcons would be the first on the goal column in the second period as Owen Allan was able to sneak one past
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School) nine minutes after the intermission to spot the home team their first lead of the night. The Valiants would knot it up at 2-2 courtesy of
Raymond Speerbrecker's (British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary School) second goal of his rookie season, a tally set up by UCHC Rookie of the Week
Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/NVK Dominanta) and
AJ Bella (Norwalk, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)).
Before both teams could make their ways to the locker rooms, Albertus Magnus would score once more with 1:33 left in the second off a Ryan Colwell shot. The Falcons would not let the lead escape, netting a pair of insurance goals in the third while limiting the Valiants to just one shot on net in the final 20 minutes.
After successfully killing off all opposing power plays in the last four games, the Valiants surrendered a pair of goals on the seven man advantages the Falcons had in the contest. Manhattanville, meanwhile, was unable to find the back of the net on either of their power play chances. Roy suffered his first loss of the season in net, as the reigning UCHC Goaltender of the Week made 33 saves in the contest.
Jarod Lavallee (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) was the Valiants' top performer on the draw on the day, winning 11 of Manhattanville's 28 faceoffs.
