Manhattanville Men's Soccer Falls in Skyline Finals to Mount Saint Vincent

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants were defeated by the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the title game of the 2021 Skyline Conference Championship, 2-0. With the loss, Manhattanville will end the season with a record of 12-5-2.

A goal in each half was enough to lead the Dolphins to the first conference championship in program history. Carlos Romero scored three minutes into the tilt, a touch longer than the 47 seconds it took CMSV to score in the regular-season meeting between the schools. But unlike that September double overtime draw, the Valiants were unable to find the equalizer while the Dolphins added an insurance tally courtesy of Ian Lamas five minutes following the halftime break.

It was a frustrating day for the Valiants attack, which was held scoreless for the first time since Sept. 22. While Manhattanville held a slight 11-9 shot advantage, the Crimson and White were only able to log five shots on target, all of which were stopped by the Dolphins' Joel Luna. Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), the difference maker for the Valiants all season long, led the way with three shots on goal, but even he was unable to provide the magic necessary to cap off the phenomenal season with a championship.

Gabriel Jefferies (Tunbridge Wells, U.K./Ridge (N.J.)) and David Rendon (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook High School) accounted for the Crimson and White's other two shots on goal. In net, Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) made four saves while allowing the two goals, only the second time he surrendered more than one goal this season. The sophomore netminder will end the year with 0.55 goals against average, and an .885 save percentage, both single-season program records.
