ASTON, Pa. – A three-goal first period was too much for the Manhattanville College men's hockey team to overcome, as the Valiants fell to Neumann University by a 3-1 final on Friday. The loss drops Manhattanville to 6-4-1 on the year and 3-2-1 in UCHC play.
Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Bishop's College School) represented the lone goal for the Valiants, scoring 14:28 into the first off of an assist from
Niko Happo (Kauniainen, Finland/Haukilahti Upper Secondary School). The goal cut Neumann's lead down to 2-1, but the Knights added another before the frame came to an end.
Dexton Mozell got the home team on the board 1:45 into the contest, while Nick Martino would convert on a power play opportunity to sport the Knights a 2-0 lead four and a half minutes into the game. Dionne Demke would light the lamp two minutes after Emoff's tally to put Neumann up 3-1, where the score would hold the rest of the way.
The Valiants certainly had chances to get back into the game as Manhattanville had eight power play opportunities. While the Crimson and White fired 14 shots total on their man advantages, none were able to sneak past Neuman's Kyle Panatlone as the Manhattanville power play unit went 0-for-8 on the nights. Pantalone stopped 46 shots total in the win.
On the other side of the ice,
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School) bounced back from the rough first period to hold the Knights scoreless the rest of the way. The junior tender made 23 totals saves, including 13 in the second.
Manhattanville was 30-29 in faceoff attempts, with
Alex Rowella (Ridgefield, Conn./Holy Cross (H.S.)) winning a team-high 17 draws.
