NEW YORK —The Manhattanville College men's basketball team lost on the road against Yeshiva University by a score of 94-73, Sunday, Feb. 14. The lost came on the second game of a back-to-back against the Maccabees (2-0). For the second night in a row the Valiants (0-2) were led in scoring by senior forward
Sean Smith, Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart) and junior guard
Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell). They had 23 and 20 points, respectively.
Manhattanville jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening minute thanks to buckets from Dunn and junior guard
Petey Galgano (New Rochelle, N.Y./Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.)). Yeshiva then went on a 19-6 run to take a nine-point lead five minutes into the first half. The run was fueled by Maccabee junior guard Ryan Turell who scored 10 points during that stretch. Yeshiva's lead stretched to as much as 17 points before the period finally ended with the Maccabees up 43-32.
The Valiants battled to start the second half and outscored Yeshiva 16-8 in the first seven minutes of play. A three-pointer from sophomore guard
Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) cut the Maccabee lead to three and the score was 54-51 with 13:27 left in the game. The Crimson and White continued to battle and 17 second half points from Smith, Jr. kept the team competitive, but Yeshiva eventually began to pull away. Turell's 36 points proved to be the difference for the Maccabees as they extended their lead to 21 by the end of the game and won 94-73.
Manhattanville will return to play in their next scheduled game at Sarah Lawrence College on Friday, Feb. 26. Tip-off is set for 6:00 P.M. and the game is subject to date and time changes due to campus, local, state and federal COVID guidelines at that time.
