No. 2 Softball battles No. 1 Farmingdale State in Skyline title game

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The second-seeded Manhattanville College softball team and the top-seeded Farmingdale State College Rams (19-5) met in the Skyline Conference Championship finals for the first time Sunday afternoon from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York. The Valiants (20-5) fell 2-0 in game 6 and then 3-1 in the decisive game 7 for the Rams to be crowned champions and sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

  • Farmingdale State struck first in the third inning as Lyndsey Shaw blasted a two-out solo shot over the left field fence on Valiant starter Kylie Pester (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark) to take the early 1-0 lead.
  • Jessica Lombardo doubled the Rams' advantage with a run-scoring double to push across Jessica Clark, 2-0.
  • Manhattanville was unable to capitalize in the seventh inning stranding Jaclyn DeLuca (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart (H.S.)), who earned a leadoff walk, and Abby Tanuma (Chula Vista, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), who followed with a single. Rams starter Stanya fired her eighth strikeout for the final out to settle the 2-0 final and force a game 7.

  • Farmingdale State opened the game 7 scoring in the first inning with one run scored on Valiant starter Charli Shinstine (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy). Brooke Walker used an RBI-single to plate Clark home for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Manhattanville responded immediately in the second with a single run scored on Rams starter Stanya. Julia Bucci (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) singled to right field to send DeLuca home and knot the game at one (1-1).
  • The Rams answered back with two runs scored in the third highlighted by Pricilla Rivera scoring the game-winning run, 2-1. Walker touched home plate off of Angelina Capuano's single, which concluded Shinstine's outing, and settled the 3-1 final.
  • The Valiants best scoring opportunity came in the sixth as Sarah Harker (Irvine, Calif./Irvine) and Abby Tanuma (Chula Vista, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) was sitting in scoring position.
  • Shinstine surrendered five hits and three runs to go with one strikeout (BB) in three innings while Jasmine Feliciano (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) sat down two batters (3 H) in three innings of relief work.
